Kilauea History
The Kilauea has been a very active volcano since 1983 as it is known to continuously be erupting. Flowing at a speed on 17 miles per hour, it is known to “flow faster than you can run”. It is known as being the most active volcanoes on the island of Hawaii that has 5 volcanoes in total. The name “Kilauea” means “spewing” in the Hawaiian language due to the frequent eruptions that it has over the history of its existence. The Kilauea also became a major tourist attraction due to its gaining popularity which ultimately resulted in business people making huge investments near the rim; such as hotels and restaurants. Hawaii’s major tourism is a cause of the Kilauea volcano.
Kilauea volcano eruption 2018
Volcanic eruptions are deadly and devastating at the same time. The Kilauea volcano that erupted recently proves to be more disastrous than ones before despite its history of frequent eruptions. It had been known to leak lava for almost 4 weeks now after which it finally exploded big and destroyed about 90 buildings and caused severe collateral damage all at the same time as displacing many families from their homes.
The lava caused the glass windows of homes and various buildings to melt before everything in the surrounding area turned to flame. About more than 600 families were known to be affected by this eruption, whose lives have been known to completely be disrupted due to their homes being washed by the lava that flash out of the Kilauea volcano.
Damage caused by the explosion
Hawaii’s Big Island was greatly affected by the explosion and about 2500 people have been evacuated due to this epidemic; which is a HUGE number when you think about it. Not only were the people in homes affected, the farmers also lost their business due to the lava taking their planted crops along with it washing down. Lava have been spread 36,000 square meters caused damage far more than what was expected. The cracks were known to increase overnight adding onto the damage. The people displaced were uncertain how long they would remain displaced.
