At borders of Rwanda, The Virugna Mountains are the habitat of almost 480 mountain gorillas. It is about more than half of the world’s population. Numerous travelers arrive at Rwanda in Volcanoes National Park to see the mountains. Frisky golden monkeys are the focal creature of this land. Nyungwe Forest National Park is home to several other species of primates like sprightly colobus, boisterous chimpanzees, and others. Most of the wildlife lovers come to enjoy at National Park because this is a solid habitat of gorillas, where you can see roaming gorillas. No doubt, these are great and real magic chunks for you.
Volcanoes National Park: Golden Monkeys and Gorillas
This is the location that needs to stay for two nights to make more fun here around the Volcanoes National Park. One day is not enough to watch gorillas. Golden Monkeys are in the National Park. It is worth watching the site when these monkeys are in action. All the time, these monkeys frolic through the forests of bamboo of the Virunga Mountains. There are two troops of Golden monkey in the Park. At lower altitudes, these monkeys live. You will love hiking to see them. Watching this energetic creature will take more than an hour because of they always busy in nibbling bamboo leaves, leaping from tree to tree trailed by their bushy and long tails, calling each other in raspy voices, and many more. Do not forget to take a camera with you to capture all these things.
Gorilla Trekking
The Mountain Gorilla is a subspecies of the Eastern Gorilla. In Uganda and Rwanda, about 840 mountain gorillas remain in the wild after the habitat destruction and poaching. These gorillas spend their lives in trees. They prefer to live in open forests where light reaches on the forest floor. Their diet consists of bamboo, stems, vines, leaves, and roots. Gorilla trekking in Rwanda is possible throughout the year, but the dry season is the best time to enjoy a gorilla trek. On the other hand, the wet season tends to make trekking harder, but the rain increases the Gorillas to search for shelter, and you cannot watch them. So, October to November is the short wet season. The long wet season starts from mid-March through June.
Primate Practicalities
Make a good budget for this expedition because you need to get a secure permit, accommodation, and transportation. Tourists have to take a permit to enjoy gorilla trekking in Rwanda. Luckily, this is easily available online, and the cost for Golden monkeys as well as chimpanzees are different from each other. The trails in the National Park area in excellent condition and most of the trekkers hire the drives and care to make more fun. It includes drop-off and pick-up in Kigali. You need to follow the rules and regulations of the Park management. The hiking trails can be muddy and heavy to walk, so you need to wear special hiking boots and clothes to move easily in the Park.
