Romans were the ones who established their city known as Babylon. Following this, there was immigration took place on the part of the Muslims of Arab who belonged to the Arabian Peninsula in AD 641 who named it Al Fustat. Once the non-conformist segment of the Muslims conquered Egypt in the year of 969 and those Muslims established their base in Cairo. It was in the 12th century, Cairo was the city which was attacked by the Christian crusaders but, Muslim army belonged to the Syria went on to destroy the attackers. In the year of 1517, the ottomans were the one who took over the city of Cairo which was later captured by the France’s Napoleon 1 in 1798. As the matter of the fact, the rule of the Ottoman Empire was put into place again in the year of 1801.
However, owing to the economic weaknesses in the shape of foreign debt and other challenged faced by the 0ttoman Empire, European power of that time started to have a greater influence on the city of Cairo of Egypt. The viceroy Ismail Pasha ruled bring some of the best structures in the city where was European typed or shaped, but the major chunk of the economic and infrastructural development that was put in place was funded by the financial resourced poured into the city in the shape of foreign loans. This ultimately, caused the situation where there was an increase in the amount of the national debt which provided the easy space for the Great Britain to get into the city for the rule in times to come. It was the Great British which ruled the country of Egypt and its city i.e. Cairo in the best possible way following the years of WW1.
It was owing to the WW2 outbreak and consequent events, the population of the city of Cairo increased to the greater extent which makes the total population reached to the amount of 2 million. The city of Cairo has turned out to become well in respect to the demographics or population and the development in the shape of infrastructure and economic development. One of the factors behind the heavy surge in the population growth was the immigration of the refugees who were badly influenced by the Arab-Israeli war that took place in the years of late 1960s and 1970s. Interestingly, there was the lot of residential, business driven and the government setup that took place in the city of Cairo which helped to transform the landscape of the area. The tourism has turned to become the major source of revenue for the government which was used to undertake the development work across the country especially in the city of Cairo.
Cairo was the city which sought benefits driven by the increase in the international prominence in the global village. It was the Arab league which was formed in the year of 1945, went on to make the Cairo the political capital that helped it to play the vital role in the politics of the Middle East.
