- MONUMENT TO THE AFRICAN RENAISSANCE:
This monument is the tallest monument in Africa and even lanky than the Statue of Liberty in New York. This gigantic monument which is 160 feet tall, can be seen from most places in Dakar as its sits at the top of a hill. The grandeur monument had come into the spot light since 2010 when it was first displayed. The statue shows the family, a father, mother and young son. Local Muslims are not very happy from the statue as they are with very little clothing. Making such expensive statue with all the economic problem in the country is another issue to public from the president. From the time of its display till now the state has been in controversies by the natives as well as by the opposition members of the Dakar’s’ assembly as the statue was came into existence on the orders of the President and also because the statue had cost so much. So, according to the critics, this kind of luxury cannot be afforded by the country as Senegal is said to be a under developed country. But besides of all these crucibles and controversies the statue yet utterly gained a powerful attraction of its visitors.
- HOUSE OF SLAVES:
The name is quite a horrifying I must say but that is it. This prison house was built back in 1776 by the Dutch. It was the last slave house and because it is dated so old that is why now it has been served as a museum. The House of Slave has been visited by many dignitaries including Pope John Paul II, Nelson Mandela, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barak Obama. Most of the people come to Goree Island only to see the House of Slaves. It is the original house where many Africans were placed on ships as slaves. Inside the house there is a Museum and castle area and infamous Door of No Return. This door has got a valuable place among the attractions because of its substantial history. Outside area has a beautiful garden with a statue of a chained male slave being consoled by a female. This house of slave surely depicts the hardships and appalling conditions of the African people that they had faced at the time of their enslavement. The island stretching over an area of 900 meters hosts around 28 slave houses.
- IFAN MUSEUM OF AFRICAN ART:
If a country or a city had an affluent history and a lot to give to its people about the good and evil and about the good and bad times the area had gone through, museums are then for sure a necessity to preserve what had happened. IFAN is one of the oldest art museums in West Africa and it was promoted by the first President of country Leopold Senghor. IFAN Museum is a part of the Institute Fundamental d’ Afrique Noire (IFAN). The museum contains the large collection from across Francophone Africa and show decent art by contemporary African and Diaspora artists.
- LAKE RETBA:
Lake Retba, Also Known As Pink Lake or Lake Rose. The lake is marvel in its way as it is naturally pink. This pink color has given this lake a fame that is quite unmatchable. The reason is its high salt content, a perfect condition for a specific kind of mico algae called “dunaliellasalina”. This organism gives pink color to the lake. This cool place is allure for the tourist. Many tourists visit this lake all around the year because of its uniqueness. Lake Retba is no doubt a major eye catching place in Dakar.
- GRAND MOSQUE OF DAKAR:
The Dakar Grand Mosque is one of the most prominent and important religious building for Muslims in the capital of Senegal, Dakar. Beautiful mosque is institute of Islamic Teaching in country. Mosque has a library opened in 2004. Mosque’s interior and exterior are richly decorated that makes it much more beautiful and the tourist came all across the world to see this incredible architectural piece of peacefulness. The mosque was designed very uniquely and its cravings are attraction for the lovers of calligraphy and traditional art. The square minaret with green pattern is the most admired part of the mosque’s architecture. The mosque served for the Jumma prayer as all the nearby mosques are shut on Friday. The only flaw the building has is its exterior as it is quite drab which is astonishing for the main mosque of the city and country but overall the mosque has a notable place being a tourist attraction and the ti9me spent there will be for sure memorable.
It is a good place with a lot of “greens”. If one wants to see the real beauty of Mother Nature then the place is probably be the finest to visit. You cannot find any quiet and peaceful place better than Zoologique in Dakar to relish the glory of nature and to relax. The parc is an overall relax and an enjoyable place and the lake at the middle of the park is just beautiful. The only problem I find with this parc is that it has no longer as many animals as it did in the past. The bird sanctuary has also been transformed into a restaurant. It is a must see place.
It is a momentous cathedral in Dakar which exists in a country where 95%population is Muslim. Cathedral grandiose architecture, its sparse decoration from inside makes it a must visiting place when you are in Dakar. You see many candle and souvenirs sellers outside the church who earn money by selling these things outside the church.
This oceanium in Dakar is for sure an attraction for the coastal country. This oceanium provide opportunities to dive and explore some great marine life. If you are in Dakar in summers then the place is a necessarily eminent to visit because the great and beautiful marine life can be visible much more clear than it is as in winters. The fewer amounts of fish is also one of the reasons to visit the place in summers. If you really want a watery fun then give this a go. If we call this place an attraction having attractions then it would be much appropriate as the best thing about this oceanium is that it is surrounded by a number of attractions including tasty restaurants, light snack bars, shopping places, entertainment opportunities including a cinema and different events featuring the Africa day, Alexandria Film Festival, sea gate festival, sphinx festival, world tourism day, world youth day, Alexandrians of the world and Leylet En Nuktah.
Saying it a wealth of experiences and delights would not be wrong. Magic land is a theme park for children. A wide variety of activities, fun, amusement rides and a snack bar are there in Magic Land. The place has been correctly named so because of the magic it did on its visitors after they visit this spot. Its first sight will definitely draw you to some other world. Children feel very much delighted over here and don’t want to leave. Magic Land is situated in the western coast between a craft market and a casino. This amusing park can be seen from a far distance; thanks to its big wheel. The park’s fortifications were built into the rocks while the walls and entrance of this park of glee are reminiscent of a fortress. The overall tour to the magic land would be enjoyable for sure and your children would love to be there.
LESS MAMELLES LIGHT HOUSE:
Less Mamelles Light House is a light house near Cap vert. The Light house was completed in 1864 and has been referred as one of the greatest light houses in the whole world. This completely white light house is a cylindrically tower having a height of 16 m. The light house consists of two floors. The people who stopped here on a whim will be gladded to do so because it is the highest elevation in the Senegal and the view is awfully amazing. The tour up to the light house will be light much more interesting and the tour guides are friendly and nice. It will cost you only $5 for the tour up. The amount is not so much so you can be there and enjoy your trip. Not a main attraction but the Less Mamelles Light House is surely a point of attraction and if you are on your tour in Dakar then we should recommend you this place to visit.
ISLES des MADELEINES NATIONAL PARK:
Isles des Madeleines National Park is the smallest national park in the whole world and is firmly known for being full of mystery. The island of Isles des Madeleines is itself an alluring point and a number of people came to this island to see, explore and admire the glory endeavored by the mother nature. The island can be seen from the western coastal road in Dakar if the sky is clear. But as most of the times the Africa’s western most point is hazy therefore you can barely get a chance of glimpse to see this island from far away. Infrequent kinds of myths are believed by the local natives and they believed that the island was possessed by demon spirits and therefore due to the fear of these evil spirits it remains uninhibited in the past. Nobody wanted to settle here except a French missionary who came here in 1700s and was settled here. Numerous stories colored over the centuries in many different ways are available to hear about those unknown spirits and also about that French missionary. Besides of all these stories and myths the remains of the missionary house still remain on the top of the island. The island was ranked as the national park in 1976 and is being listed on the UNESCO World Heritage tentative list. The park is best to be refresh and relax and the guided trips are also bestow to the tourist so they can enjoy their trip on full.
