IMPORTANCE OF MADINA AND HISTORIC PLACES TO VISIT

Madina being the second most sacred city all over the world attracts million of people especially Muslims. The meaning of Madina is “The City” while the long term used for Madina is “City of the Prophet of Allah”. As He (P.B.U.H) is the last messenger of Allah Almighty. So in his respect and honor, Muslims always send a Durood on him. Because of the fact, Muslims prefer to say it commonly as “Madinat Rasul Allah (P.B.U.H)”.

Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was invited to Yathrib (the old name of Madina) to take a rule and act as a governor in 622 A.D. Madina was the main city of Islam and de facto capital of the Caliphate when He was attacked twice and He came back to Mecca. During the rule of first four caliphs, known as Righteous Caliphs the Islamic empire arrived to include various centers like Jerusalem, Ctesiphon, and Damascus. Madina is also rich in its history. These given places in Madina are worth mentioning;

 

  • MASJID-E-NABAWI:

As a religious site, Madina became the eminent worship point after the construction of Masjid-an-Nabawi. The Masjid is also known as “The Prophet’s Mosque”. It is situated in the Hejaz region of Western Saudi Arabia. Caliph Al-Walid I expanded the mosque in order to spread Islam. Madina was the first place where Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) migrated from Mecca and as a result of His this practice; numerous Arabs accepted Islam and started following him.

  • MASJID QUBA:

Known as the first mosque in the history of Islam, is located almost three kilometers away from Masjid-e-Nabawi. This Masjid is of great value because it was the only one whose foundation stone was laid by Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) himself while he was staying in Mecca. According to a Hadith, “praying 2 rakats of Nawafil here will be equal in reward to one Umrah. There is also a separate place in the mosque for ladies to pray and it is situated in the south of Masjid.e.Nabawi.

  • MOUNT UHUD:

Mount Uhud has a great importance as Islam’s second battle, which was fought between Muslims of Madina and attacking infidels of Mecca. At Uhud, some of the martyrs of the second battle and Sayed-us-Shuda Hazrat Hamza (R.A) are buried here and their graves can be seen through windows in the walls. By standing at the centre of hill, one can imagine the two armies who were fighting at that point. Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) declared this mount as one of the doors of Paradise.

  • MASJID-E-JUMMAH:

This mosque is situated near Madina. Once Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) reached in Bano-Salam-Bin-Auf tribe on his way when He (P.B.U.H) moved from Quba to Madina, He stayed here and offered the Jummah prayer because the time for Jummah prayer came at that point. So, after holding the first Jummah prayer at that place, this mosque was constructed at the same spot. And the mosque was named as Masjid-e-Jummah.

  • MASJID-E-ALI (Bir-Zulhalifa, Abyar-e-Ali):

This mosque is situated 12 kilometers away from Madina. The mosque promulgated as Meeqat for pilgrims. A well present on the location called Abyar-e-Ali is known as Ali’s well.

  • MASJID-E-GHAMAMA:

This is located very near just at a walking distance to Masjid-e-Nabawi. It is also called Masjid-e-Eid because Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and His companions offered the Eid prayers in this mosque. He (P.B.U.H) also offered prayers for rain here. A well decorated pink colored wall has made around the mosque and lanterns are hung on the wall with date tree planks.
