PHUKET CULTURE AND PLACES TO VISIT

Phuket is the province of Thailand and it consists on the island of Phuket which is the country’s largest island and also includes 32 smaller islands off its coast. The province is consisted on an area of 576 sq kilometers. This island was one of the major trading route between India and China and was important for country’s economy. Now, this region derives much of its income from visiting and tourism.

The alluring landscapes of Phuket are also the reason of tourists’ attraction here. The place has a lot to see. “Two Heroines Monument” is a memorial statue of the heroines Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon, who rallied islanders in 1785 to repel Burmese invaders. “Thalang National Museum” is situated near the Two Heroines Monument. The Thalang National museum was established in 1985, on the 200th anniversary of the Thalang War. The museum has a lot about the history, ancient artifacts, material used during the war of Burma and on old life of Phuket. Hat Patong (Hat means beach) is one of the most developed beach of Phuket and is 3 km long. The beach is situated 15 km far from the Phuket town. Patong is consisted of restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and other various attractions that are quite enough to catch their visitors’ attention. Daytime activities are although a bit different from night time activities and more based on watersport. Another beach known as “Hat Karon” is the second largest beach visited by tourists in Phuket. The beach is located about 20 km from town. “The Big Buddha of Phuket” is on the peak of the mountain near Muang Phuket. This statue is made up of white Burmese marble and is known for its amazing eye catching artwork.

The culture of Phuket depicts its strong and dominating history and almost every aspect of its culture surely represents its culture in true meanings. Its cuisine has a wide range of foods and deserts and Phuket natives are also fond of having something sweet after their meals. Some of the dishes like Hokkien noodles, Tamarind prawns, squid morning glory, spring rolls Hokkien, fried spicy pork, fried spicy rice, fried vermicelli, rice vermicelli bone noodle soup, Chinese steak and fried oyster with taro are very much famous in the locals as well as the people who had visited Phuket also like the food. Deserts contain varieties of cakes including red turtle sticky rice cake, Chinese year cake, white sugar sponge cake, egg cake and Malay-style pancake.

The language of Phuket natives is Thai. The Thai language is not like English language. Thai language does not have plural, so a word will be more than enough to explain your desire. The language can be called much as a tonal language because the tone that how you pronounce a specific word will change its meaning.

95% of the people of Thailand are Buddhist. So, also the main religion of Phuket is Buddhism. The influence of their religion over its people’s lives is clear at every level and they gave a great importance to their religion in every aspect of their lives.

One of the interesting cultural norm is that the people remove their shoes before entering the house as they considered it a bad manner. Some shops and offices also follow the same rule.
